About Everest Industries Roofing Sheets

Everest Industries Limited is a leading building products manufacturer in India, best known for their fibre cement roofing sheets — marketed under the Everest brand. Important note: Everest fibre cement sheets are asbestos-free (also called AC sheets or fibre cement sheets) — they are made from Portland cement reinforced with cellulose and synthetic fibres, not asbestos. Everest was one of the first Indian manufacturers to transition fully to asbestos-free production.

In addition to fibre cement, Everest also manufactures colour-coated steel roofing sheets (Everest Coloured Roofing Sheets) for applications where a metallic profile is preferred. The two product lines serve distinct use cases, markets, and installation methods — details for both are covered below.

Product Lines and Specifications

1. Everest Fibre Cement Corrugated Sheets (AC Sheets)

⚠️ Fibre cement sheets are heavier than GC steel sheets and require closer purlin spacing. They do not bend — they are rigid panels. No metallic weight chart applies. IS 459 governs these sheets.

2. Everest Colour-Coated Steel Roofing Sheets

Everest also produces colour-coated galvanised steel sheets — these follow the same GC corrugated profile dimensions as other steel sheet brands and are covered by IS 277.

Frequently Asked Questions — Everest Industries Roofing

Are Everest AC sheets made of asbestos?

No. Everest Industries transitioned fully to asbestos-free manufacturing. Their fibre cement sheets (often still called "AC sheets" colloquially) are made from Portland cement reinforced with cellulose and synthetic fibres — not asbestos. The "AC" in the old terminology stands for Asbestos Cement, which was the historical product, but Everest no longer uses asbestos in any product. Their current sheets are safe and conform to IS 459.

What is the difference between Everest fibre cement and Everest colour-coated sheets?

Everest fibre cement sheets are rigid cement-based panels — heavier (14–24 kg each), require a steeper roof slope (minimum 15°), closer purlin spacing, and are grey in colour. They are common in rural housing, agricultural sheds, and older construction. Everest colour-coated sheets are standard galvanised steel sheets with a coloured paint finish — lighter, available in multiple colours, and require only a 5° minimum slope. The two products serve very different applications.

What minimum roof slope is required for Everest fibre cement sheets?

Everest fibre cement corrugated sheets require a minimum roof slope of 15° (approximately 1 in 4, or 1 vertical unit for every 4 horizontal units). This is significantly steeper than GC steel sheets which require only 5°. The steeper slope is needed because fibre cement sheets have lower resistance to standing water and are more porous than steel.

What IS standard covers Everest fibre cement roofing sheets?

Everest fibre cement corrugated roofing sheets are covered by IS 459 (specification for corrugated and semi-corrugated asbestos cement sheets — the standard title retains the historic name, but now applies to fibre cement equivalents). Their colour-coated steel sheets follow IS 277 (galvanised steel sheets) and IS 13000 (pre-painted steel sheets).

How long do Everest fibre cement roofing sheets last?

Everest fibre cement sheets have a typical service life of 30–40 years under normal conditions, which is longer than standard GC steel sheets (15–25 years with good zinc coating). Fibre cement does not rust, is not affected by salt air, and requires virtually no maintenance. However, they are more brittle than steel — walking on them can cause cracking — and they are significantly heavier, requiring stronger roof structure.
